GLAM VIP: Bedtime Stories
A classic children’s book inspired fashion event to promote children's literacy
6pm - Meet & Greet 7:30pm - Fashion Show
Now in its seventh year, The Reader's GlamVIP has become one of the premier annual fashion events in Omaha. The show was originally an exclusive after-party event for the national Peels Spring Hair show but quickly outgrew its initial purpose. By year three, it was its own full-fledged fashion and hair spectacle featuring some of the best fashion designers, models, stylists and makeup artists - as well as local musicians and other performers. Each year, the show encapsulates a different theme. Highlights include 2010's "Sabotage" theme, 2008's "Alice in Wonderland" theme, and last year's immensely successful "Black Friday" theme. Also new last year was GlamVIP's partnership with the charitable D.R.E.A.M. (Developing Relationships through Education, Athletics and Mentoring) organization. Through awareness, mentoring and the mindset of paying it forward, D.R.E.A.M. is making a positive impact in the community. GlamVIP has become part of the nonprofit organization's annual BIG D.R.E.A.M.s WEEKEND, beginning April 4-6, which includes the return of many former and current NFL stars, Husker Legends and other celebrity guests from the community. This year's GlamVIP, scheduled for Thursday, April 4, at the Champions Run, will feature the theme "Bedtime Stories," a classic children's book-inspired fashion event to promote literacy. Unstable home environments, unsafe streets and pressure from peers keep many of our young people from reaching their full potential. Some of us came from similar circumstances, but we had mentors and/or programs that inspired us to set and reach attainable goals.
D.R.E.A.M. is mentoring and inspiring our youth to do the same thing. Our mission is to expand opportunities for youth and families by providing positive role models, invaluable life experiences and ongoing support and assistance.
